Bucher is Director of Information Technology at Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio. He also is an occasional professional seminar presenter and consultant in the area of customer service. He has presented seminars to a great diversity of clients since 1982, including manufacturing, retail, health, and the general service industries. Mr. Bucher attended Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio for both his undergraduate (1972) and M.S. degrees (1975) in biological sciences. He received a Ph.D. in biology in 1984 from the University of Kansas, with an emphasis in avian ecology.
Mostly as a result of his necessary statistical research in the biological sciences, Mr. Bucher became involved as a user of computing services in the early 70's. From 1977 to 1979 he was employed as a systems analyst for the Museum of Natural History, University of Kansas, and in 1979 took the position of Customer Service Representative at the KU Computing Services. Since then he has been actively involved in many aspects of customer service in the information services industry, including consulting, documentation, and training. He was the Director of Computing Services at the University of South Dakota from 1987 to 1993, and the Director of Computing and Network Services at Kansas State University from 1993 to 1996 at which time he took his position at Oberlin College.
