Marshall Brain: The Accidental Entrepreneur

Marshall Brain will discuss his experiences starting three successful businesses accidentally. He will also tell you where he is headed now.

BIO: Marshall Brain

Marshall Brain is best known as the founder of the popular HowStuffWorks Web site. Started as a hobby in 1998, HowStuffWorks has grown to be one of the top 500 Web sites in the United States. The site has been named consistently in the "100 best Web sites" lists of magazines such as Time, Scientific American, PC Magazine and Yahoo Internet Life. Mr. Brain has been interviewed by hundreds of radio stations, TV stations, newspapers and magazines, and is a regular guest on CNN Headline News. As the CEO of HowStuffWorks, Marshall Brain raised $10 million in venture capital.

Born in Santa Monica, California in 1961, Mr. Brain has degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and North Carolina State University. Today Marshall Brain is a well known author and speaker, and has written a dozen books. Prior to starting HowStuffWorks, Mr. Brain was the co- founder of a software consulting and training firm, and for his work there he earned recognition from Ernst & Young as a top entrepreneur. Mr. Brain also taught at North Carolina State University, where he is a member of the Academy of Outstanding Teachers.
