| Abstract: |
The primary goal of this presentation is to increase understanding of the challenges that students with disabilities encounter when working with web-based and other electronic content. Content designers may also pick up some tips on strategies for making electronic content accessible. The main portion of the presentation will be led by Barb Riverdahl, a graduate student who has a severe visual disability. She interacts with web pages via screenreading software, a popular assisstive technology for students with visual disabilities that "reads" aloud the text on a computer screen. During the presentation, she will use the software to compare accessible and inaccessible web pages. A workshop based on this model was conducted at UNCCH in May and was well-received by participants. We will also provide a brief overview of other accessibility-related initiatives at UNCCH. |
