| Abstract: |
Maintaining a large web site is a daunting task. Department members are knowledgeable about changes needed for their area of the web site, but often don’t have the training needed for posting web pages that work correctly and are consistent in appearance with the overall site. We will present a ColdFusion-powered web site with a secure content management system for data entry and provision for uploading documents, making it simple for knowledgeable but non-technical staff members to update the information on their department’s web pages. To address the challenge of restricting data-editing access to appropriate users, we have implemented a role-based authentication system which ensures that users are only allowed entry to the areas to which they have been granted access. Users are associated with a role, which specifies a certain set of actions that can be performed by a user associated with that role. |
