UNC-Chapel Hill is developing an enterprise data warehouse that will provide campus-wide access to information for planning, budgeting, analysis and reporting. Users access the warehouse using web tools for OLAP, ad hoc and parameterized reporting.

The warehouse will be developed in four major iterations: Financial, Human Resources, Student, and Space and Facilities. The Financial Balances Data Mart was delivered in January 2003 and is currently being used by almost 200 UNC-CH employees. HR and Financial Transaction data marts are planned for the latter part of this calendar year.

Although a large number of campus users access data from the warehouse, there is tight security tied to areas of responsibility. Menus and reports are built dynamically according to a user's profile.

In this presentation, UNC-CH will discuss some lessons learned during the design and implementation phases and demonstrate the menu interface, security module, custom report menus and sample cubes and reports.
