| Abstract: |
| Handling enterprise-wide printing in any university computing environment
presents many challenges. Among these challenges, the most critical issue
is the rapid explosion of print volume when students or faculty members
are allowed to print without limitations or repercussions.
IT staff at both UNC-G and NC State had to come up with a mechanism to curtail the avalanche of paper usage by shifting the burden of the cost of printing consumables to the user. While computing staff at UNC-G chose a commercial printing solution, IT staff at NC State developed a charge-per-page debit system internally. Our joint panel discussion will compare and contrast two universities' responses to a common problem, as well as offering a technical overview of our respective systems. |

| Our presentation is intended for those who are interested in printing in general, or who might have particular interest in the design, maintenance, and support of a large-scale printing system; Individuals dealing with studtent computing and those thinking of implementing P4P at their institution. |
